The Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) has made wide-ranging recommendations, inter-alia, for expanding the coverage of NSS, for improving the impact and sustainability of activities taken up under NSS, for streamlining the administrative and financing mechanism under the Programme, for capacity building of NSS stakeholders and for making the Programme more attractive for them.
The Minister interacted with the participants and after deliberations, directed that a Core Group be constituted immediately to finalise a precise Action Plan, with specific time-lines, for implementation of the recommendations of the TISS Study Report. In particular, he emphasised that an effective mechanism should be developed for supervision, monitoring and evaluation of NSS activities (including development of activity mapping and benchmarking tools). Shri Singh also stated that a National Level Advisory Body would be set up for NSS, comprising of all concerned Government and Non-Government stakeholders, in order to advise the Ministry on strengthening of NSS on continuing basis.
