Random check to ensure fair assessment in SAs, FAs

For the first time this year, Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will be conducting random inspection in schools in the coming months to ensure fair assessment of students appearing in summative assessment (SA) and formative assessment (FA), said sources. Students of class IX and X are passed on the basis of performance in two SAs and FAs.

Vice principal of The Shishukunj International School, Vasundhara Ohri said results of all summative and formative assessments are kept in record and from this year onwards, CBSE will conduct random school inspection in order to ensure that all exams are conducted and students are assessed fairly without any discrepancy.

Earlier, CBSE had made it compulsory for students of class IX- X to take summative assessment tests, in order to qualify for the next class. Principal of Advanced Academy Manoj Bajpai said the reports of formative assessment is also sent to the regional head office and random inspections will ensure that schools have updated records of FAs and SAs held. "Emphasis is laid on difference in SA and FA results. Such checks help maintaining transparency in evaluation system," added Bajpai.

Schools will have to keep a record of details like student attendance in tests, marks obtained in both tests etc.
