NLC to Recruit Engineers via GATE 2014 Score

The Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC) has released an employment notification for recruitment of engineering graduates as executive trainees through GATE 2014.

NLC is a government owned company with its major business focus on lignite mining and power generation. The company is headquartered in Chennai and has been listed in the prestigious group of Navratna companies.


Job profile

Successful candidates will be joining NLC as Graduate Engineer Trainees and they will undergo training for a period of 12 months (extendable). On completion of the training period, candidates may be posted in any unit under Neyveli Lignite Corporation Limited or any of its subsidiary companies. Selected candidates will be required to enter a contractual agreement under which they have to serve the corporation for a minimum period of three years. On failure to comply with the agreement will lead to penalty of Rs 1,00,000.

Important dates

Online Submission of GATE 2014 application forms: 2nd September,2013 to 1st October, 2013

Commencement of online registration of application on NLC website: 20 December, 2013 (10 a.m.) to 20 January, 2014 (5 p.m.)

Eligibility criteria

The candidates should have passed the following discipline from a AICTE or UGC recognized Indian university with a minimum of 60% marks for General and OBC category and 50% for SC/ST;

The engineering branch, the number of vacancies for each branch and the education qualification required are listed:


Mechanical (27): B.E/B.Tech or AMIE in Mechanical with 60% marks
Electrical (21): B.E/B.Tech or AMIE in Electrical/Electrical & Electronics or Electronics and Communication
Mining (10): B.E/ B.Tech/ B.SC Engineering or AMIE in Mining Engineering
Control & Instrumentation (9): B.E/B.Tech or AMIE in Instrumentation/ Electronics & Instrumentation/ Instrumentation & Control Engineering.
Civil (8): B.E/B.Tech or AMIE in Civil/Civil & Structural engineering.
Computer (3): B.E/B.Tech or AMIE in Computer Science/ Computer Engineering/ Information Technology or Master's Degree in Computer application.

Only Indian Nationals are eligible to apply for this position.

Candidates satisfying the above educational qualification will have to appear for GATE 2014.

Those who are in the Final year of their Engineering course may also apply. However, such candidates should satisfy the above requirements of educational qualification at the time of selection i.e by 31st August, 2014.

The upper age limit for candidates is 30 years as on 1st December, 2013. The age relaxation for SC/ST is five years; three years for OBC(Non-creamy layer), and PWD and Ex-servicemen(as per government rules).

If the candidates are currently working in a Public sector enterprise or government organization, then they should obtain a NOC at the time of interview.

Application procedure

As a prospective candidate, you will be required to follow a two step procedure:

STEP-1: Those who have applied for GATE-2014 are eligible to apply for the recruitment by NLC. Interested candidates may apply online as per the detailed information provided by official GATE-2014 website: gate.iitkgp.ac.in/gate2014

STEP-2: Once you register for GATE-2014, a registration number shall be allotted to you, which will be printed on the admit card. Once you receive this number, you may apply for the vacancies only through the official website of NLC (www.nlcindia.com).

Candidates are advised to choose the corresponding GATE-2104 paper code for the relevant field of study.

Candidates belonging to the general and OBC category are required to pay an application fee of INR 300. Application fee is exempted for candidates belonging to the reserved categories.
Applicants can make the payment of fee by using the Challan form (available on the website) at any of State Bank of India Branches. On submitting the fixed amount, the bank will issue a Unique Journal Number and branch code details of the bank receiving the money. Candidates are required to fill in this information during the online registration of the application form.

Eligible candidates are shortlisted on the basis of their GATE-2014 score only. Such candidates will be further undergoing a Group Discussion or Personal Interview round. Final selection will be made based on the performance of the candidates in the above rounds.

Salary/ Remuneration

The company offers a promising compensation package of approximately 6.15 Lakhs annually (subject to revision). During the one year training period the trainees will receive a Basic pay, dearness allowance (78.9% of basic pay) and common allowance (40% of basic pay) per month. Additionally, they will receive performance based incentives annually, Medical benefits, Housing loan, Group insurance and superannuation benefits.
